In 2010, we introduced the world´s smallest photoelectric smoke alarm, using the experience from the travel alarm. The new smoke alarm was unique because of the EN-approved micro-design and special features.
Corporate Social Responsibility Policy
Cavius is demanding a high level of social responsibility in the factories that we use. The factory manufacturing for Cavius is complying to the following standards: ISO 9001: 2015 – ISO 14001: 2015 – OHSAS 18001 2007 – BSCI
Our policy is to take a measure of concrete steps to reduce implications as much as possible. We recognizes the duty of minimizing the environmental foot print as much as possible and supply our customers with safe and long lasting products.
Cavius has created an integrated Wireless Alarm Family range with a common protocol.
All alarms will alert you, whether there is a flood/water leak in the basement, a fire in the attic or smoke in the hallway. The detector causing the alarm, will be easy to identify due to the clear visible indication.
The ActivFire Scheme is a third-party product certification program operated under the conformity assessment system of CSIRO’s Verification Services (CSIRO-VS) and covering active fire detection and suppression equipment as used by the building and construction industries.
The ActivFire Scheme as one of a number of programs operating under CSIRO Verification Services is a nationally recognised product certification program for the registration, certification and listing of active (detection and suppression) fire protection equipment. It verifies a producer’s attestation of conformity to relevant reference criteria and specified requirements (standards and specifications).
Products for which conformance to reference criteria has been independently verified, are listed in the ActivFire Register of Fire Protection Equipment on line.
ActivFire provides validated documentation produced from relevant and verifiable details in relation to the properties and performance of products and materials used in building construction.
Cavius has joined BSCI, a common code of conduct and one single implementation system.
BSCI is not a certification, an auditing company nor an accreditation system. It’s a monitoring system based on the labor standards of the International Labor Organization (ILO), which will provide a broad range of tools and activities to audit, train, share information and influence key actors towards improving labor conditions in the supply chain of participating companies.
Its purpose is to improve various areas in terms of social responsibilitypolicies, freedom of association, working hours and overtime, non-discrimination, prohibition of child labor and forced labor, the special protection of young workers, the payment of a minimum wage, measures to ensure health and safety at the workplace, protection of the environment, and safety jobs.
Before a product covered by the EMC regulatory arrangements can be sold in Australia it must be labeled. The label is comprised of a C-Tick mark and a unique supplier identification. The C-Tick mark is intended for use on products that comply with EMC standards. The label indicates that the product complies with the applicable EMC standard and establishes a traceable link between a product and the supplier responsible for placing it on the Australian or New Zealand market. The use of the C-Tick mark cannot be transferred to another party without the prior approval of ACMA or RSM. The C-Tick mark is a certification trademark registered to ACMA in Australia under the Trade Marks Act 1995 and to RSM in New Zealand under section 47 of the NZ Trade Marks Act. The C-Tick mark is only to be used in accordance with conditions laid down by ACMA and RSM.
EN 14604 is a compulsory standard established in May 2008 for all smoke alarms sold in Europe. It will define minimum requirements that stand-alone smoke alarms must meet. EN 14604 will be issued by an independent notified body further various tests on the products. An
Must comply, among others, with the following requirements:
Response to different types of fires (wood, cotton, flaming plastics and flaming liquids)
Emit a minimum sound output of 85dB(A) at 3m
Minimum battery life of 1 year
Being equipped with a test button to confirm a proper functioning
Provide a low battery warning
Display various information on the product such as manufacturer name, the reference standard, batch code, manufacturing date, recommended battery type and various instructions to the user
This AS3786 standard applies to smoke alarms intended for installation in Australia/NZ within residential accommodation where connection to fire control stations is not required.
This standard specifies requirements for the design and performance of electrically operated smoke alarms containing both detection and alarm facilities. It allows, although it does not require, the inclusion within the smoke alarm of facilities for interconnection with other similar units, or accessories. Where such facilities are included, this standard specifies requirements for the connection interface.
CSIRO specialise in the ‘verification of conformity’, whereby the extent to which a product, process or service fulfils specified requirements is systematically examined. These requirements can be part of a national or international standard, or they can be a specification or code of practice that has been widely adopted by an industry sector as a de facto standard.
Cavius is complying with the latest’s quality management systems: ISO 9001 standards, in order to ensure that our products and services consistently meet customer’s requirements, and our quality is consistently improved.
This standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, with the fundamentals of quality management systems (including the eight management principles), the process approach and continual improvement.

NF mark is going beyond EN 14604 standard; delivered by AFNOR Certification in France. It is not compulsory and will come in addition to the EN 14604 standard (CE mark). NF Certification will provide additional guarantee of quality and reliability. NF will provide annual inspections and audit at the manufacturing site, but also on the market where products will be picked up and tested in order to ensure every product sold is compliant to EN 14604 standards.
Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED) is replacing “Old” R&TTE directive. Applicable since 13th June 2016, it applies ONLY to radio equipment, including radiodetermination equipment, means to all CAVIUS Wireless Alarm Family.
The Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED) establishes a regulatory framework for placing radio equipment on the market. It ensures a Single Market for radio equipment by setting essential requirements for safety and health, electromagnetic compatibility, and the efficient use of the radio spectrum. It also provides the basis for further regulation governing some additional aspects. These include technical features for the protection of privacy, personal data and against fraud.
The RED applies in all European countries and also in the EEA-EFTA States (Liechtenstein, Iceland, and Norway) and will apply in Turkey.
REACH is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals.
REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. It entered into force on 1 June 2007. It has an impact on most companies across the EU.
To comply with the regulation, companies must identify and manage the risks linked to the substances they manufacture and market in the EU. They have to demonstrate to ECHA (European Chemical Agency) how the substance can be safely used, and they must communicate the risk management measures to the users.
Some substances have hazards that have serious consequences, e.g. they cause cancer (carcinogenic), or they have other harmful properties and remain in the environment for a long time (persistent) and gradually build up in animals (bio accumulative); Therefore, ECHA has published a Candidate List of substances of very high concern (SVHC) that are identified as potential targets to be regulated for use within the EU by the process of authorization. This is the letter “A” in the acronym REACH. Substances are added to the Candidate List by ECHA. Any substance included on the Candidate List may ultimately be added to Annex XIV of the REACH regulation by decision of the European Commission. The identification of a substance as a SVHC and its inclusion in the Candidate List is the first step of the authorization procedure.
Effective October 28, 2008, fifteen (15) substances were initially placed on the Candidate List. Last updated on Jun 27, 2018 has now 191 substances.
In order to place on the market or use substances with properties that are deemed to be of “very high concern” industry must apply for an authorisation. The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) publishes a list containing substances to be considered for the authorisation process
RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances, and impacts the entire electronics industry and many electrical products as well. The original RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union in 2002 and restricts the use of six hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. All applicable products in the EU market since July 1, 2006 must pass RoHS compliance.
